What is eSUN eClean eClean is a specialized filament whose sole purpose is to purge and clean the hotend and extruder of your FDM/FFF 3D printer. Instead of laying down material to build parts, it acts as a maintenance tool: running it through your system helps remove residue from previous prints and any oozed or burnt filament that might be degrading performance. Key Benefits As filament residue (such as carbonized plastic, burnt particles, or old material) can build up in the hot-end area of your printer, it could compromise flow, cause underextrusion, or even completely clog the nozzle. Regular use of cleaning filaments like eClean helps maintain consistent extrusion, improved print quality, and reduces the risk of failed prints due to blockages. Technical Specifications Diameter: 1.75mmWeight: 100gRecommended Use Temperature: 160-300 °CColor: Natural (undyed) Usage Tips Heat the nozzle to a temperature in the recommended range that matches the previously used material (or slightly higher). Insert the eClean filament and slowly extrude it until you observe a clean and consistent flow. If residue is particularly stubborn, let the filament sit for a short time at a higher temperature, then purge. After cleaning, resume with regular filament, ensuring it is properly positioned for best feeding. Packaging and Storage The eClean spool is vacuum-sealed to keep moisture, dust, and other environmental contaminants away before use. This helps maintain its cleaning effectiveness and ensures reliability when you need it. Store in a dry place after opening. eSUN eClean is a cleaning filament designed to keep your 3D printer's nozzle and extruder free from buildup. With a recommended operating temperature of 160 to 300 °C, it can remove residue from a variety of filament types. The filament is vacuum-sealed to protect it from moisture and contamination. Ideal for improving filament feeding consistency and reducing clogging. Key Features Cleans accumulated filament residue in the hot-end Helps prevent nozzle clogging Wide temperature range (160-300 °C) Suitable for many filament materials Ensures smoother filament feeding Vacuum packaging for moisture and dust protection Features Manufacturer: eSUN Model: Clean175W01R1 EAN: 6922572242418 Buy eSUN Cleaning Filament at STRATO3D with fast shipping in Italy.

Cleaning filaments are special materials designed to clean the inside of the extruder and nozzle of residues from previous prints. They are essential when switching between very different materials (e.g., from PLA to Nylon, from PETG to PEEK) or to remove carbonized residues that cause under-extrusion and clogs.

When to use a cleaning filament

  • Material change: when switching from a low-temperature material to a high-temperature one.
  • Routine cleaning: every 20-30 spool changes as a preventative measure.
  • Clogging diagnosis: before disassembling the nozzle, try a cleaning cycle.
  • Eliminating carbon residues: after printing with CF/GF reinforced filaments.
  • Professional printer maintenance: weekly or monthly routine.

How it works

  1. Load the cleaning filament into the extruder.
  2. Set the nozzle temperature to the maximum value of the previous material (e.g., 230 °C after PLA, 280 °C after Nylon).
  3. Extrude 50-100 mm of cleaning filament.
  4. Allow to cool to 90 °C without unloading.
  5. "Pull" out the cleaning filament: it will bring out the residues from the extruder.
  6. Repeat if necessary until the filament comes out clean.

Technical characteristics

  • Nozzle temperature: 150-280 °C (cold cleaning).
  • Compatibility: all standard FDM nozzles.
  • Packaging: small spools (250-500g) — sufficient for many cycles.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much cleaning filament is needed for a clog? Typically 50-200 mm per cycle. A 500g spool is sufficient for 50-100 cycles.

Can irreversibly clogged nozzles be cleaned? For severe clogs, disassembly + mechanical removal (metal wire, cold pull) is required. Cleaning filament prevents rather than cures.

Is it also used with resin printers? No, cleaning filament is only for FDM. Different methods are used for LCD resin (filtering, vat replacement).

Should I use it before PEEK/PEI? Highly recommended, because residues of PLA or ABS at 350-400 °C carbonize and clog the nozzle.
