3D print bed adhesives are the simplest and cheapest solution to the two most common adhesion problems: the print coming loose halfway through the job and warping (corners lifting). The right thin film of adhesive improves the first layer, protects the surface of the bed and, in some cases, also makes the part easier to release at the end of the print. When to use an adhesive
- Warping with ABS/ASA/Nylon: materials that shrink and lift at the corners without good adhesion.
- Difficult surfaces: smooth glass, worn PEI, aluminium, where the first layer struggles to anchor.
- Tall or thin parts: a small contact area and a high risk of coming loose.
- Protecting the bed: a sacrificial adhesive avoids ruining flexplates and PEI.
How to choose the right adhesive
- By material: there are dedicated formulas (e.g. Magigoo ABS, PA, PP, Flex) as well as universal ones for PLA/PETG.
- By surface: glass, PEI, magnetic flexplate or aluminium require different strengths.
- Format: sticks and gels for precise application with no overspray; sprays for large beds; lacquer for frequent use.
- Cold release: some adhesives (Magigoo) let the part go when the bed cools down, reducing the risk of breakage.

How much adhesive should I apply? A little, evenly. A thin film is enough: layers that are too thick leave residue and can make the first layer less flat.
Should I apply it to a hot or a cold bed? It depends on the product; many sticks and gels spread better on a warm bed. Follow the instructions on the packaging.
How do I remove it? Most adhesives are water-soluble: warm water and a cloth. Spray may need isopropyl alcohol.
Does an adhesive fix warping on its own? It helps a lot, but with ABS/ASA it is best combined with a heated bed, a brim or raft and an enclosed chamber.
